YCF accepts most publicly traded and closely held stock. Stock is typically transferred in-kind, allowing you to avoid capital gains tax on appreciated assets. Once received, the stock is liquidated and proceeds are placed into the fund you designate. A gift of stock is a simple and tax-efficient way to support the causes you care about. To make a gift of stock, contact Elaina Stifffer at 620-418-6982 for transfer instructions.
IRA Charitable Rollovers (Qualified Charitable Distributions)
If you are age 70½ or older, you can make a direct gift from your IRA to YCF through a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD). This gift can satisfy all or part of your required minimum distribution while reducing your taxable income. It is a simple and tax-efficient way to support the causes you care about while making the most of your retirement assets.
Beneficiary Designations on Retirement Plans
You can name YCF as a beneficiary of your 401(k), 403(b), IRA, or pension plan. Retirement assets left to charity are not subject to income or estate taxes, allowing more of your gift to go toward the causes that matter to you. This option is easy to arrange and can be updated at any time by completing a beneficiary designation form through your plan administrator.
You can support YCF by naming the foundation as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy or by transferring ownership of a paid-up policy. These options allow you to turn an existing policy into a meaningful charitable gift, often at a lower cost than making an equivalent cash contribution. Depending on how the gift is structured, you may receive an income tax deduction and reduce your taxable estate, while ensuring lasting support for the causes you care about.
You can donate a personal residence, vacation home, land, or income-producing property such as rental or commercial real estate to YCF. A gift of real estate may allow you to avoid capital gains tax on the transfer and receive a charitable income tax deduction based on the property’s fair market value. These gifts can be a powerful way to use appreciated property to support the causes you care about while maximizing tax benefits.
You may donate art, jewelry, collectibles, vehicles, or other items of value to YCF. These gifts can provide a charitable income tax deduction based on the item’s fair market value and may allow you to avoid capital gains tax on appreciated property. Contributing tangible assets is a meaningful way to turn personal property into lasting support for the causes you care about.
You can make a gift of cryptocurrency or other digital assets to YCF. These gifts are generally treated like donations of appreciated property, allowing you to avoid capital gains tax while potentially receiving a charitable income tax deduction for the fair market value at the time of the gift. Donating digital assets is a modern, tax-efficient way to support the causes you care about.
If you have a donor-advised fund (DAF), you can recommend a grant to YCF directly from your fund. This allows you to support the causes you care about while taking an immediate charitable income tax deduction when you contribute to your DAF. Using a donor-advised fund is a flexible and tax-efficient way to make a meaningful impact over time.
You can donate grain from your farm to YCF, either at harvest or by transferring stored grain. Gifts of grain are typically valued at the current market price, and making this gift may allow you to take an income tax deduction while avoiding capital gains on the donated commodity. Donating grain is a practical, tax-efficient way for farmers to support the causes they care about.
