YOUR COMMUNITY FOUNDATION FAQ

WHAT IS YOUR COMMUNITY FOUNDATION?

Your Community Foundation is a charitable, tax-exempt, non-profit organization that helps provide support to and improve the quality of life in Allen, Woodson, and Anderson Counties. We assist our donors in achieving their philanthropic goals and creating enduring legacies through permanent endowments and other charitable instruments. A portion of the interest made on each fund is used for grant-making within the community to other non-profits and projects selected through our application process.

WHAT IS AN ENDOWMENT FUND?

An endowment fund is a permanent fund in which the principal contributions gifted to the Foundation are not spent. Your monetary contribution is invested, and only a portion of the interest earned is available for grant-making. An endowment fund will ensure your donation has a lasting impact on generations to come.

WHAT IS A PASS-THRU FUND?

This fund is a temporary fund that functions similarly to a checking account. It earns very little interest on the amount that is held. With this fund, the entire amount can be withdrawn through grants. Since it doesn’t grow like an endowment, the fund will depreciate. There are also fewer tax advantages for a pass-thru fund.

WHO CAN GIVE?

Donations are accepted from any donor that is willing and able to give. Every donation counts, no matter the size.

WHAT IS THE MINIMUM CONTRIBUTION?

We accept gifts from donors of all dollar amounts. Contributions can be made to an existing named fund, or with a minimum of $10,000, a new fund can be created in a field of special interest to the donor.

What is an Endowment Fund?

An endowment fund is a permanent account held with the Foundation in which the fund's principal cannot be granted out, only up to 5% of the interest can be granted. The purpose of this fund is to grow in perpetuity to provide a sustained source of income for a cause or organization.

What are Your Non-Endowed Options?

Pass-thru Funds: A pass-thru fund is a temporary charitable checking account held with the Foundation in which the interest and principal can be granted out of the fund. These accounts make little to no interest and do not appreciate. Pass-thru accounts held with the Foundation will automatically become an expendable fund after reaching $3,000.

Expendable Funds: fund is a temporary invested fund held with the foundation in which the interest and principal can be granted out of the fund.
